Director’s Bio
Mickaël Pillisio
Director
Mickaël Pillisio is a self-taught filmmaker, cinematographer, and music composer, born on June 8, 1990, into a family with deep roots in migration and industry. His father, from Andalusia, and his mother, from Sicily, grew up in families that moved to northeastern France to seek better opportunities. His grandparents worked in the region’s heavy industries, particularly in iron mining and boiler-making for Schneider, embodying values of resilience and hard work that still shape Mickaël’s creative vision.
As a filmmaker, Mickaël specializes in single-take sequences (plan-séquence), creating emotionally charged, organic narratives that explore themes of nature, movement, and human connection. His work rejects superficiality in favor of raw, immersive experiences that capture the present moment with authenticity.
In addition to his work as a filmmaker, Mickaël is also a composer for film and stage. His musical approach is deeply rooted in acoustic instruments, primarily guitar, but also includes piano, drums, bass, and vocals. With wood as a key element, his compositions embrace an organic, natural sound that connects to the essence of his storytelling. Mickaël’s music has been featured on Radio France, including France Culture’s La Méthode Scientifique and FIP, and he was named a Musical Discovery of the Month on France TV national in October 2019.
Mickaël’s creative work has earned recognition through initiatives like the “Talents en Cours” program by the CNC, which supports emerging filmmakers, and the “Unternehmen – START” program, a Franco-German exchange fostering international collaboration in the cultural industries.
Through his unique fusion of sound, movement, and visual art, Mickaël continues to push the boundaries of storytelling, crafting immersive, meaningful works that resonate across various artistic forms.
